HIGH LOW AWARD

HIGH LOW AWARD
Requirements:

  1. Comply with the General Requirements.


  2. At least one adult going on both trips must have completed a Council Basic Backpack Awareness Course and at least one adult must have a current Red Cross First Aid Card or equivalent.


  3. Minimum requirements for Mt. Whitney:


    1. Each participant must complete two overnight backpacking hikes camping over 8,000 feet in preparation for the Mt. Whitney hike.
    2. The trip must be at least a 3 day backpacking trip covering a minimum of 21 miles. You may start at Whitney Portal or any other point as long as a minimum of 3 days are required for the hike covering at least 21 miles. You must comply with all requirements for other patches on these trails.
    3. Each participant must reach the top of Mt. Whitney and sign the registration book at the summit. This is the highest point in the lower 48 states at 14,495 feet above sea level.


  4. Minimum requirements for Death Valley:


    1. The outing must be at least 2 days in Death Valley and may be a tailgate campout.
    2. Visit the museum at Furnace Creek.
    3. Visit Bad Water. This is the lowest point in the United States at 250 feet below sea level.
