a. Objectives

This lesson covers 6.6 in your textbook, Quiz 12, Chapter 6 Review and the Final Exam Review. When you complete this lesson you should be able to solve each of the following types of problems, showing all relevant steps:
6.6.1 Solve logarithmic equations algebraically and without a calculator by changing to exponential form. Give exact answers that do not contain logarithms.
6.6.2. Solve exponential equations algebraically and without a calculator by rewriting with a common base and equating exponents. Give exact answers that do not contain logarithms.
6.6.3. Solve exponential equations algebraically by taking the logarithm (base 10 or e) of both sides and solving. Give exact answers that probably will contain logarithms. Use a calculator to approximate the answer.
Chapter 6 Review: All objectives from Lessons 10, 11 and 12 are covered on the Chapter 6 Review.
Final Exam Review: All objectives from the previous lessons are covered on the Final Exam Review.

b. Assignments and Due Dates

All assignments for Lesson 12 must be completed and submitted by Sunday, May 10, 2009. Assignments for this lesson include:

1. Learn the material in 6.6 by using "E-text, Videos, Practice" (study the text, view videos, do example problems and practice problems) AND/OR using the "Lecture Notes" (read the lecture notes, work out the examples, and check your answers using the key). Both are accessed through the MyMathLab (MML) menu on the left of this page.

2. Complete the homework assignment for 6.6. Homework assignments are accessed through "Homework" on MML menu on the left.

3. Complete and submit Quiz 12. Quizzes are accessed through "Quizzes/Test Rev" on the MML menu on the left.

4. Complete and submit Chapter 6 Review, due on Sunday, May 10. This review is accessed through "Quizzes/Test Rev." on the MML menu on the left.

5. Complete and submit the Final Exam Review, due on Friday, May 15. The Final Exam Review is accessed through "Quizzes/Test Rev" in the MML menu on the left.

6. Optional, but highly recommended: (Note: Since this is an optional activity, there is no rush to complete it by the due date for this Lesson. I recommend that you work on it during the testing window, planning to complete it before you take the Final Exam.) In addition to the Final Exam Review in MML, you will find an Optional Chapter 6 Review and an Optional Final Exam Review posted under "Optional Chap. Revs." in the MML menu on the left of this page. I highly recommend that you download, print out and work through these reviews. Graphing is an important aspect of Final Exam, and these reviews will give you valuable practice in graphing that is similar to what you will see on the Final Exam. Complete these reviews under testing conditions; that is, with closed book, showing all steps and in a two-hour time frame. Use the key to grade your reviews, and then go back and redo any problems that you missed. Remember that studying under conditions similar to testing conditions (closed book, showing all work and time restrictions) helps you to perform better on the test.
