Office Hours: Monday 6pm-7pm, Wednesday 3pm-4pm and by arrangement.

The goal of the Music Program is to facilitate the acquisition of knowledge through creating educational opportunities for the student.  This course is an exploration of the physics of sound, sound recording, and sound reproduction.

Topics:  Advanced utilization of the recording chain including signal routing and processing.  Time scheduling, organization, communication, multi-tasking and follow-through.

Materials needed:  Mackie Hard Drive, Alesis ADAT Tape or Ampex video tape (check with us) is suggested for the main transport (ADAT).  High bias cassette or DAT tape can be used for mixdowns. Studio GigKit Required, to be discussed in class.

Grading:  Grades will be based on attendance, participation, completion and follow-through as shown through test results and in class preparations.  Tests will be open for a period of two weeks only.  Evidence of progress and adherence to the assignments must be illustrated to the instructor every class.

Textbooks:  "Modern Recording Techniques," Fifth Edition, by Huber and Runstein, "Audio Explained".

Attendance: You must attend regularly.  In class discussion is vital to understand studio
procedures and operation.  To avoid a poor grade it is your responsibility to drop before the prescribed drop dates. Do not expect to be dropped by the instructor. 
Limited number of absences is three.
 
No arriving late or leaving early.

Student Objectives

Students will be evaluated through the performance and completion of assigned projects. Access to the studios will depend on the assignment of specified projects.
