CAT (chloramphenicol acetyl transferase) activity of several different promoters transfected into rat XC cells. The variant MMTV promoter examined here functions in virtually any cell line that contains a functional glucocorticoid receptor (GR). The promoters included in this figure are:

1. SV40 promoter and enhancer
2. MMTV wild-type promoter with dexamethasone
3. MMTV wild-type promoter without dexamethasone
4. MMTV variant #1 promoter with dexamethasone
5. MMTV variant #1 promoter without dexamethasone
6. MMTV variant #4 promoter with dexamethasone
7. MMTV variant #4 promoter without dexamethasone
8. MMTV variant #2 promoter with dexamethasone
9. MMTV variant #2 promoter without dexamethasone
10. pCAT Basic
11. no enzyme, cell lysate
12. LacSwitch^TM, fully induced (with IPTG)
13. LacSwitch^TM, with lac repressor plasmid co-transfected
