IMPORTANT NOTE on CLOSED Classes: All the online classes and many of the on-campus classes close quickly. You should register ASAP if you are interested in any class. If you change your mind, please drop the class immediately so others can enroll. If the class is closed, consider the Wait List procedures; be aware of the rules and the limitations. Otherwise, consider these options: 1) register for another section if available; 2) register for another class; 3) consider registering in a future semester; 4) show up for the first day of an on-campus class and discuss with the instructor; or 5) forget about it and move on. The instructor will not intervene with the wait list procedure.

Please be aware that, once a class reaches maximum enrollment and “closes,” on or after the first day of the semester, even if “available” spaces appear on SURF due to drops, it is within the instructor's complete discretion on whether to add more students at that time. Drops after the first day are normal attrition and are factored in when setting the maximum enrollment. The class has started and important assignments and subject matter have already been covered. Please do not email the instructor. Thank you for your understanding.

Teaching Philosophy/Style and Class Management/Activities

Together, you and I will be creating an in-class and on-line learning community. All members of this community are responsible for ensuring that learning takes place. Thus, preparation and contribution to discussion are very important. You are expected to complete the assigned reading prior to class, contribute meaningfully and substantively when in class, and to complete and submit all assignments on-line by their due dates. We all learn when we all make this commitment to the class. Our learning activities include lecture, discussion, chapter summaries or assignment questions, quizzes, and the development of a final class project document. This final class project document is developed over the course of the semester. You submit the document in draft sections. I grade them and provide comments for you to incorporate in the final document.

What I bring to this learning community is many years of business experience in the telecommunications, defense and non-profit industries. My undergraduate degree is in Information and Computer Science and my MBA emphasized International Business. Both were earned at the University of California, Irvine. Much of my career was spent in Information Technology roles which allowed me to see a wide variety of business operations. I also spent 4 years on international assignments which included product deployments in Asia, Europe and Latin America.

Although my courses are taught on campus, they include a significant on-line component. You will submit all assignments on-line and you will retrieve all grades and comments on-line as well. Because of this, I expect you to have the technical knowledge and ready access to an efficient computer and to effectively deal with the Internet, Email, Blackboard and basic Word Processing tools. You are expected to promptly read and fully understand the syllabus and all information sent by email or posted on the Blackboard site. You must have good time management skills and be able to spend approximately 6 to 9 hours per week on the class. If you have work, family or other class obligations that will not allow for this, you should not take the class. I am available via phone, email and office hours but I will expect you to find and utilize the many resources provided by MiraCosta College to assist you in being successful in my class.
