Part I Step 4: Your Required Class Materials (including MyMathLab)

Your required class materials are as follows:

Registration into MyMathLab will be needed in order to complete your mandatory orientation. Failure to purchase and register in this required material will result in you being dropped from the class. As you will read in the next step, Part II Step 5 of your mandatory orientation requires you to do work in these online materials. Your orientation is not complete until you satisfactorily finish those assignments inside MyMathLab (including a Syllabus Quiz).

1. Read specific information about MyMathLab

   Go to http://pearsonmylab.com/ (a new window will open when you click on the link) bookmark this page.
   Then, read each link in the "For Students" box located towards the bottom/left of the page.

   Note: When you are on the 'Tours' page link (the 2nd link mentioned above), make sure you watch the video which corresponds to the way you will be paying for access to the class.

   • Watch 'Registering with an access code' if you plan to buy an access code. An access code is a random series of letters/numbers contained in a cardboard packet. Typing in the access code during the registration process shows that you paid for access. An access code is what you buy if you buy from the bookstore. Since this packet must be sent to you or picked up in person, you can't access the online materials until you have the access code in-hand and have typed it in.
   • Watch 'Registering with a credit card or PayPal' if you plan to buy directly from the publisher. Purchasing this way makes your access to the materials immediate and possibly cheaper.
   • Watch 'Registering with Temporary Access' if you cannot pay right now, but you can within 14-days. In order to make your access permanent for the the duration of the semester you WILL need to purchase access (either using a credit card/ PayPal or buying an access code).

   Please be sure that your computer/browser meets the technical requirements and that you will be comfortable using online materials and an eBook. Currently, Apple devices are not compataible with many portions of MML.
   
   As you have just read, non-dial up/reliable internet access will be needed to access all of your required materials. All the computers in the Math Learning Center (MLC) at MiraCosta College are configured to run MyMathLab. It is NOT required that you have your own computer at home for this class; you may use the computers in the MLC for your entire class. Technical difficulties are not an excuse for missing assignments.
   

***Note: From here on out, ONLY students who are officially enrolled with the Admissions and Records Office (A&R) in one of my classes should perform the following actions (unless I've asked you to get in to check out the class).***

If you are NOT currently registered with the Admissions and Records Office (A&R) in one of my classes, please feel free to read on. Do not PURCHASE the access unless you are officially enrolled in the class.

2. Register and Enroll in MyMathLab

   Please do not purchase a pre-owned/used access code. Once an access code has been redeemed, it can NOT be used again.
   
   
   **If you are not able to purchase the required class materials but you will be able to afford purchasing them before the end of Week 1, please fell free to use the Temporary 14-day Access offered by the publisher.**

   Now, It is time to get into your online materials. Earlier in this step, you watched the publisher's movies.
   
   These movies described how to register your materials.
   Please follow those directions to register and enroll in the MyMathLab materials now.
   
   You will need to following information to register in MyMathLab:

• Course ID Code: Given in the Syllabus in the 'Required Materials' section of the syllabus (Reading the Syllabus was Step 2 of the Orientation)
• School's Zip code: 92056
• A valid email address that you check on a regular basis
  
  
  When registering in MyMathLab, PLEASE DO THE FOLLOWING:

  A. Choose anything you would like to use as your Login Name and Password. If your name is David Jones and you choose the Login Name 'djones', don't be surprised if you are directed to choose another Login Name because that one has already been used.
  You may need to get creative with your Login Name. Often, students will choose their email address or their MiraCosta College Student ID Number as their Login Name.
  
  B. Regardless of what you choose as your Login Name and Password, when you are asked for your first and last name, please be sure to use the name that A&R has on file for you even if that's not the name you go by. If A&R has your name recorded as 'David Jones', and you register in MyMathLab with the name 'David Brummy' or 'Big Daddy', I'm going to officially drop 'David Jones' from the class because it looks like 'David Jones' never purchased the online materials for the class - which was a part of the mandatory orientation. Also, the student named 'David Brummy' or 'Big Daddy' will get inactivated in MyMathLab (i.e. lose access to the MyMathLab materials for this class) because he's not on my A&R roster.
  
  This goes the same for hyphenated last names. If the school has your name as David Smith-Jones and you tell MyMathLab your name is David Jones, you're going to get dropped and lose access to the class materials. I can NOT assign a grade on my roster from A&R to a student with one name, for work completed in MML by someone with a different name. If you do not know what name A&R has on file for you, please find out first before registering in your online materials. If you change your offiical name during the class, you will need to update that information with MML if you update your name with the college.
  
  C. Be sure to give MyMathLab a valid email address that you will be checking on a daily basis. I send emails through MML, so please be sure to give them your correct email address. If you change your email address during the class, you will need to update that information with MML.

3. Do NOT Delete Confirmation email

   Once you have completed registering, you will receive a confirmation email from the publisher. This email will include your Login Name and Password.
   Please DO NOT lose this email. I can NOT look up your username or password for you if you forget them.
