June Porto

 

Program Director - Computer Science

June Porto was born and raised in Hawaii, namely, on the pineapple isle of Lanai. She attended Punahou School in Honolulu. During the summers she surfed, snorkeled, rode horses and tried to get a great tan. Life was idyllic on Lanai, but the outside world beckoned.

She attended college on the mainland at Oregon State University, CSU at Long Beach and UCSD for graduate studies in computer science. She has traveled extensively throughout Western and Eastern Europe, Australia and the Middle East both for business and personal reasons.

Professor Porto has been teaching at MiraCosta College since 1989. She is the Computer Science Department Chair. In addition to her BS in Operations Research and her MBA, she has California State teaching lifetime credentials in both Computer Science and Business Administration. June is a certified Microsoft Office Master, with Expert Certifications in Access, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Ms. Porto has worked for several major corporations during her career and consulted with many firms as well as individuals. She has worked closely with NASA and DOT on numerous state-of-the-art projects. While at McDonnell Douglas, she was instrumental in airline sales and aircraft scheduling as well as Program Manager on several advanced design projects, including Supersonic and Turboprop aircraft. June has taught many classes in various programming languages including JAVA, C++, VISUAL BASIC, VBA, PASCAL, FORTRAN, ALGOL and COBOL.
