Advanced Floating Lab

This is the most important page on this site so please read through it thoroughly. The advanced floating lab is a series of stations (6) designed to collect and analyze data taken from the field. The focus is on relating the data observations to the physical and biologic systems.  Take your time and read about each sampling technique and the guidance given to help you interpret data on your own!  The six stations for the advanced floating lab are:

1) Secchi Disk: Water clarity and color at 12 meters.

2) Plankton Station: Plankton sampling in the photic zone

3) Seawater Properties: Dissolved oxygen, salinity, pH, and temperature at 0, 10, 20, 30 40, 50 meters.

4) Petersen Grab: Seabed sampling

5) Otter Trawl: Bottom fish sampling.

6) Navigation and Observation: Coastal navigation and observations.
