Biomanufacturing Instructor

Welcome to the Biomanufacturing Recruitment Portal

This site has a list of resources for you to familiarize yourself with the Biotechnology Program at MiraCosta College and the job responsibilities of the biomanufacturing instructor. It is expected that the primary responsibility for this position will be to lead the lower division curriculum related to biomanufacturing and, potentially, teach upper division coursework in our novel bachelor's program in biomanufacturing.

We are hoping to recruit a diverse pool of candidates for this position that have the combination of academic qualifications and biotechnology industry experience.

Job Announcement

The official job announcement is here and applications are submitted through jobs.miracosta.edu. The closing date is Tuesday, March 28, 2017.

Transcipts of all college coursework/degrees will be required for the application (unofficial are fine as long as they are legible).

The salary schedule is included here.

We're expecting to attract individuals that might only have industry experience. You do NOT need to have been an educator to apply. This new degree program is highly industry-focused and we appreciate the perspective of those that have worked in that environment and may have only had "teaching" opportunities through mentorship and training.

Program History and Development

We were invited in 2013 to write a case study of our program that was published in the October edition of the Industrial Biotechnology journal. It's not a comprehensive history of the program but it captures the recent history. The second article was published in December 2016 in a supplement for Bioprocess International that covered, in general, education and training issues in biomanufacutring.

Bachelor of Science in Biomanufacturing

We have a public site related to this new degree, which includes an FAQ. It is updated on a regular basis as issues-in-development reach a conclusion.

In March 2015, the college received approval from the Chancellor's Office for California Community College to be a part of a 15 college pilot program to develop a bachelor's degree that met two key criteria: (1) does not duplicate existing degrees at CSU/UC and (2) addresses an unmet workforce need. The pilot program was enabled by Senate Bill 850.

MiraCosta College responded with a proposal for a degree in biomanufacturing. The following is an exerpt from our subtantive change request to our accreditor, ACCJC:

BS, Biomanufacturing: Program Description

In December 2015, MiraCosta College was granted approval from our accreditor to become a baccalaureate granting instutition.

The first upper division classes will be offered in fall 2017.

**The Statistical Process Control class has been replaced with Supply Chain and Enterprise Resource Planning.
