Part I Step 4: Your Required Class Materials (including MyMathLab)
Your required class materials are as follows:
- Access to the online MyMathLab materials (MyMathLab is accessed via Blackboard so only students who are actually enrolled in the class can access the MyMathLab class materials). Access to MyMathLab can be purchased several ways (discussed below).
- A current valid school or government issued ID Card
You must show current ID to take each of your on-site assessments
- A Graphing Calculator (GC)
I will be using and doing demonstrations on a Texas Instruments TI-83 graphing calculator. However, the TI-84 (any version) also works almost exactly the same and generally processes faster. Please purchase/borrow either a Ti-83 (any version) or TI-84 (any version).
When you take your paper-and-pencil Tests at the APC, you will be given a choice of using their TI-83 or TI-84 calculator (if allowed on that particular Test).
Some questions on each graded paper Test may REQUIRE the use of the TI-83/84 GC. If you do not view the GC lectures and learn to use the GC, you will miss questions on paper Tests.
- A notebook for note taking and working problems

Registration into MyMathLab (via Blackboard) will be needed in order to complete your mandatory orientation. Failure to purchase and register in MyMathLab (via Blackboard) will result in you being dropped from the class. As you will read in the next step, Part II Step 5 of your mandatory orientation requires you to do work in MyMathLab. Your orientation is not complete until you satisfactorily finish those assignments inside MyMathLab (including a Syllabus Quiz). If you are not able to purchase the MyMathLab access today, please sure the 14-day free access offered by the publisher.
Read specific information about MyMathLab
Check out the System Requirements to make sure your computer meets all of the technical requirements.
Please be sure you are
comfortable using a computer and working online.
All the computers in the Math Learning Center (MLC) at MiraCosta College are configured to run MyMathLab. It is NOT required that you have your own computer at home for this class; you may use the computers in the MLC for your entire class. Technical difficulties are not an excuse for missing assignments.
***Note: From here on out, ONLY students who are officially enrolled with the Admissions and Records Office (A&R) in one of my classes will be able to perform the following actions.***
You are now ready for Step 5 (which is Part II) of your orientation. Please remember that you must be in the class materials no later than the end of the day on 1st day of classes. Also, all of the steps - including completeing orientation exercises - must be completed by 11:59 pm on the 2nd day of instruction for your class (or within 24 hours if you register after the 1st day of instruction for that class).
